Sanaxeen is a treatment against lower urinary tracts symptoms (LUTS) based on a standardised pollen extract. Micturation is dependent on the integrity of a complex neuromuscular network in the lower urinary tract. Any disturbance in this network in the bladder and urethra will lead to micturation dysfunction. Symptoms related to micturation dysfunction are called LUTS. These symptoms could be the need of visiting the toilet frequently both during the day and night, dribbling, poor flow, incomplete emptying etc.

The most common cause behind LUTS is benign prostatic hyperplasic (BPH). Around the age of fourty-five, the prostate tends to become larger causing the narrowing of the urinary tract that passes through the gland. Pollen extracts have been used as a treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasic (BPH) for more than forty years. Several clinical studies since then confirm that pollen treatment gives significant improvement when it comes to problems and symptoms caused by BPH.

SanaxeenThis makes it more difficult to empty the bladder completely. Residual urine remains in the bladder and therefore the patient doesn’t feel much relief from urinating. He may soon experience a need to go to the toilet again. At night this is particularly troublesome and patients may have to get up 3-4 times to go to the toilet. Another cause behind LUTS could be chronic abacterial prostatitis (CAP) or chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CPPS), an inflammation process in the prostate or lower pelvic area without any trace of bacteria. The causes of CAP/CPPS have not been determined. The process of aging also weakens the detrusor muscle, which causes the bladder to become unstable and lose capacity. Further causes could be bacterial prostatitis, caused by bacterial infection, or even prostatic cancer/ bladder cancer.

There are foremost two areas where the pollen extracts and thereby Sanaxeen has a positive effect on problems caused by BPH; namely the effect on the bladder and the urethra.

1. The detrusor muscle, a muscle that helps emptying the bladder, reacts to the pollen extracts by activating the muscarin receptors in the detursor muscle. This strengthens the muscle and helps emptying of the bladder completely. Further studies confirmed that the pollen extract significantly affects the pressure inside the bladder which also facilitates emptying of the bladder.

2. Furthermore the extracts affect the muscles in the urethra by preventing contractions caused by noradrenalin. The passage through the urethra is kept open which makes urinating easier
